Large or protruding ears can be an embarrassing problem for both children and adults and often has a negative impact on the self-esteem and confidence. Ear reshaping surgery (Otoplasty) can be performed to set back protruding ears or to reduce the size of large ears. It is a simple procedure and one of the earliest forms of cosmetic surgery to be carried out, dating back to the late 19th century. The procedure involves removing skin and reshaping cartilage from behind the ears. The ears are then stitched in to the new position with the incision marks concealed in the crease behind the ear, leaving no signs of surgery.
Large or protruding ears.
Large ears are reduced in size and protruding ears are set back. The results are immediate and permanent.
The effects of this one-off procedure are permanent.
The procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic and usually takes 2-3 hours. It will be necessary to wear bandages around the ears for about a week to allow healing. Once the bandages and stitches are removed the results are immediately visible.
