How to Address a Colleague's Body Odour?

A colleague - a young lady, works brilliantly, dresses stylishly, has her hair cut and applies makeup tastefully. BUT she has a very strong body odour - a trail lingers as she walks past, and the smell is pungent and unpleasant. Well, it's clear that all colleagues notice this and everyone is uncomfortable. But we're too shy to talk about it - perhaps she has a health issue and can't do anything about it. Although I personally know a couple of very strong deodorants for hyperhidrosis, they should help - but I don't even know how to start such a conversation - the girl might get offended. The boss even left a deodorant in a conspicuous place - but it just lay there, the girl didn't take it. But we're also out of patience, it's very irritating to sit in meetings and smell all this. And inevitably thoughts arise that it's impossible not to feel that you smell like this and whether it's a conscious choice not to use deodorant, like for naturalness (I saw once that she doesn't shave her legs). Then it's a different conversation. But it's still somehow embarrassing to say to a person, especially a colleague: "Why do you smell?" What would you advise in such a situation?

I didn't take it because I thought someone had forgotten it, one can't just take what's not theirs. Could someone write a note with a polite request to do something about the unpleasant smell and place it on her desk? As for her unshaven legs - that's none of your business!

Perhaps there's something wrong with her endocrine system. For some reason, I notice with my own illness, when I take tablets, my smell also changes and nothing helps.

And what advice could there be here? No one knows, fundamentally she doesn't use antiperspirant or she has some disease. I had a classmate who didn't use it, her mum told her it causes cancer. 🤦‍♀️ Loads of years have passed since school and she still hasn't started using it, she still walks around smelling (I bumped into her by chance). Her colleagues are the "lucky" ones. PrIncIple, indeed.

As I understand it, you've got a right old zoo going on in your team. You're probably the ones who stink, but decided to pin it on the girl out of jealousy because you mentioned at the start that she's young, attractive and stylish. So, the old bags can't forgive her for that and have come up with all sorts of nonsense.

We also had a colleague who smelled very strongly of sweat, as if a crew of builders had just finished their shift, but it was all from one little lady. Nobody even wanted to talk to her because of this. So, they told her and she did something about it, probably started washing and doing laundry, and now we work in absolute comfort and even communicate. It needed to be said.

To be frank, they said - no offence and don't take it personally but you smell quite bad, to everyone... then the same thing was said by another person... and it all passed She said - ah yes, well okay... and something along the lines that she doesn't perceive or feel smells, therefore.

Oh, there was this bloke, he absolutely reeked, and not just of old, worn-out clothes, but his breath stank of decay too... And he thought he was something special, even though he looked like a right mess. We told him straight, in our team, we're all about the brutal honesty, no beating around the bush. He stopped stinking and toned down his arrogance too, by the way.

Well, everyone's sense of smell is different, perhaps hers is significantly reduced, and she may not even be aware of her unpleasant peculiarity. In any case, if this bothers you, she needs to be told. And if daily hygiene is not enough, you could recommend Driclor to her - it's a medicinal product for treating excessive sweating, it excellently eliminates both odour and sweat, and moreover, it needs to be applied only every few days.
