Enhanced facial contour
Buccal fat pad removal or cheek reduction surgery, is a cosmetic surgical procedure to reduce fat in the lower part of the cheeks. Buccal lipectomy, or more widely known as cheek fat removal, is a surgical procedure that removes the buccal fat pad from the area of the lower cheek to create a slimmer contour to the face. Once this fat pad has been removed, this presents more definition to the cheekbones; this will show a definitive line between the height of the cheekbones and the lower jawline on the face. Therefore, it creates a less rounded and more V-shaped-looking face. The total amount of buccal fat that is removed is based on the desired shape. While buccal fat pads do not regenerate, other facial fat cells may expand because of weight gain. These fat pads, located beneath the cheekbones and between facial muscles, contribute to overall facial shape and appearance. The process of buccal fat removal is done by shaping the bones from your face. The heat makes high temperatures and this causes melting off additional fats leaving skin smoother.

The surgeon will take out extra fat from your cheeks, and several stitches will close it up. This option is good for younger patients who have stretchy skin.
Once you have discussed the goals and arranged all details with your experienced plastic surgeon, your buccal fat pad removal procedure will be scheduled. A buccal fat pad removal surgery is about 45 minutes long and is done with the patient asleep after general anesthesia, or with the patient conscious after local anaesthesia.
The plastic surgeon will make a small incision inside your cheek once you are asleep or numbed, and use special tools to remove a portion of the buccal fat
pad through the incision. The plastic surgeon will then close the incision with dissolvable stitches.
This process is then repeated on the other cheek to achieve symmetrical results.
People often get other cosmetic surgery treatments such as rhinoplasty, chin augmentation, or facelift to balance their face. Doing these surgeries together helps make your whole face look better. Cheek reduction surgery results are both long-lasting and provide a permanent change for the face. A little later, after surgery, your face will get swollen, so it may not immediately show complete results. Approximately six months may be required for the swelling to go away completely.
While taking out too much facial fat from your buccal fat pads can tighten your smile lines, the lines running from your nose to the sides of your mouth. Smile lines might change in some people, but this is not the primary reason for the surgery. The only effective method of correcting the deep lines is to tighten the skin with a facelift. Buccal fat pad removal centers on weight loss rather than toning the face. There is no way that a fat removal tightens the skin. Therefore, it cannot directly improve the sagging properties of the skin.
After a few weeks , you will see changes in your face. In addition, the swelling will be gone, and you will see the outcome after a few months. Even if you are happy with the result after getting buccal fat surgery, your face may change 10 years from now as you age. The outcome of excess cheek fat removal surgery is permanent. If your face is deprived of buccal fat and muscle, the skin and inner cheek get wrinkled. Because of these, some individuals claim that their faces seem older than before the surgery.
You should let your doctor know if something is wrong after the buccal fat reduction; the doctor can then determine what is going on and administer the proper treatment. Also carefully follow the guidelines after the buccal fat pad surgery to help you recover smoothly and prevent any post-surgery complications.
