What is a Genital Wart Removal?

Skin Growth

Is removal necessary?

Genital warts are small, flesh coloured bumps (or cluster of bumps) in the genital or anal area, caused by some types of human papillomavirus (HPV). Are genital warts contagious? It is highly contagious and transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, most commonly during sexual intercourse.

Although not always required to be removed, most women opt to treat genital warts because of the common genital wart symptoms or due to comfort level, human papillomavirus avoidance, or simply personal preference. At Harley Street Skin Clinic we provide effective and gentle removal options, safe and specifically tailored to your needs.

Several benefits include:

  • Improved appearance
  • Reduce risks of spread

The procedure
Wart Removal Options
What are the methods used in effective wart removal?

The following are popular methods for genital wart removal:

  • Cryotherapy (Freezing): A warts is frozen with liquid nitrogen, causing it to fall off once the skin heals. May need repeated treatments.
  • Electrocautery: This burns the wart using an electric current.
  • Surgical Excision: in this procedure the warts are excised with a scalpel under anaesthesia. Pain may occur afterward.
  • Laser Treatment: This is a directed light beam for tough warts.
Quick Wart Removalt
How long does it take to remove genital warts?

The procedure may take time from 15 to 30 minutes as it depends on the number and size of warts being treated.

Warts May Recur
Can warts come back after treatment?

The treated warts can return a few weeks or even months later. This is because the treatment targets just warts and does not eliminate the human papillomavirus that brings on them. If any of the cells in the surrounding skin of your genital area and vagina still have the virus, it is possible for the warts to reappear.

Post-treatment Downtime
Will I need time off work?

You do not need to take much time off work for genital wart removal. Most people are back to their normal routines in one to two days and if there is any discomfort, a day or two of rest is usually all that is necessary.

Quick, Mild Discomfort`
Is removal of genital warts painful?

You may feel some discomfort removing genital wart but your doctors usually give you some numbing stuff to help and the pain doesn’t last long.

Am I suitable
Is Genital Wart Removal good for me?

Ideal candidate for removal of genital warts is a person suffering from chronic discomfort, pain or itch due to these warts in their daily lives or during intercourse. Getting rid of the warts often provides a much-needed quality-of-life boost for many. Those who are concerned about being able to spread human papillomavirus (HPV) to a partner or possibly affect other areas of their body can also be eligible as removal can minimise these risks.

Likewise, certain individuals whom the genital warts emotionally affect them can consider this option for treatment. A lot of people suffering with their warts are under different kinds of stress and embarrassment or self-consciousness that having a wart brings them, and now more they can feel relieved again since their warts removal. Prospective candidates must be in generally good health because a healthy immune system helps people recover more easily after surgery.

The risks
Can risks be prevented?

Genital wart removal treatment is typically safe but there are some significant risk attached to it. Patients do feel pain/discomfort during and immediately after the removal, some swelling and redness in the treated area are also common. Risk of minimal scarring may be noticed with either surgical or laser treatments in some patients.

There is also a risk of infection if aftercare guidelines, including avoiding cleanliness and irritation, usually are not followed. Certain methods are harmful, like freezing which may lead to bleeding or blisters. The removal of the warts does not remove the HPV virus itself which is why they recur. In some cases, the underlying risks can be brought under control with a single treatment, while in others, they may only be controlled through repeated treatments or constant vigilance. That is why getting an HPV vaccine is an added protection.
