The process of receiving jawline fillers begins with a consultation in which your provider will assess your whole facial structure and bone structure to determine your concerns and medical history to ensure you are an appropriate candidate. You will be seated in a comfortable chair, and your plastic surgeon will gently inject the filler under the skin of your chin and your contoured jawline with a fine needle or cannula. The majority of jawline and chin fillers are followed by lidocaine. Your face will be numb, and you will be comfortable; if it does not have lidocaine, your nurse practitioner may put on numbing cream first. It takes 15–30 minutes for the entire process.

What are the pre-treatment guidelines?

Inform your doctor of any drugs or supplements you are taking.
Quit blood thinners and OTC pain killers, vitamin E, garlic, ginseng, and primrose oil.
Do not consume alcohol 1 or 2 days before your filler treatment.
Refrain from using any topical skin treatments containing glycolic acid, retinols, or retinoids at least a few days before your appointment.
Avoid the use of hair removal products like tweezers during this period.
Jawline filler treatment is a nonsurgical procedure; you should eat and drink normally for your treatment.

What are the recommended post-treatment care?

Don’t drink too much alcohol, exercise too hard, or smoke for 24 hours after a jawline filler injection.
Refrain from using cosmetics and skin care products in the next 24 hours.

Is Jawline Filler good for me?

A good candidate for a jawline filler is a healthy person who is looking to enhance their jawline shape and definition without the need for any surgery.

These patients should have mild to moderate volume loss in their jawline, good skin elasticity, and no known allergies to filler substances. We would prefer non-smokers or those planning to quit to be realistic about the results.

The risks

Can a risk be prevented?

Side effects related to the treatment area are normal and may include bleeding, bruising, temporary swelling, and tenderness around the area, which resolve in a couple of days. Swelling and bruising can persist for up to 10–14 days, and generally it takes 2 full weeks for them to completely settle.

Uncommon but possible side effects include vascular occlusion, infection, allergy to the filler product, and even scarring. If you experience any of these rare side effects, call your provider right away. Prior to your treatment, make sure your provider explains these risks and ensures that your safety is the most important thing throughout and after the procedure. They also suggest booking a second appointment two weeks after any facial filler appointment in order to ensure that the client is happy with the results and allow time for touch-ups if needed.
