What does it do?
A dermatofibroma is a fibrous tissue overgrowth, also called benign fibrous histiocytoma, is a non-cancerous hard lump that develops on the skin, typically on the arms or legs. It all starts with a consultation from one of our doctors. Similar to the mole removal procedure and skin tag removal, they will examine your dermatofibroma and ask about your medical history. If it needs to be removed, we will schedule an appointment for that procedure.
A local anaesthetic is used to numb the area during the treatment using laser therapy or surgical excision. You’ll feel a slight prick and then nothing. The dermatofibroma will be excised as carefully as possible and oversewn to promote proper healing.
Dermatofibroma removal is quick and simple, it only takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on how deep and wide the dermatofibroma is.
Because dermatofibromas grow deep inside the skin, they might scar a little when removed. There is nothing to worry because our doctors will also advise you on how to care for your scar so that it heals nicely. Given proper care, we will ensure optimal healing of your scars.
