Seeking Effective Long-Term Acne Treatments: A 6-Year Struggle

I'm seeking expert advice, or just advice from people who have dealt with acne. It started in Year 8, pus-filled spots began to appear, I smeared all sorts of creams, masks and so on, it didn't help. Then I started taking Bifidobacterium (don't know if that's correct), they seemed to start going away, but when I finished a month's course they started appearing again. I don't eat sweets, salty or spicy foods. I watch my diet, but spots still appear, please help, I'm desperate! I've been treating them for 6 years.

Have you been to a dermatologist? Have you tried treating with retinoids? There are systemic ones, and there are ones for topical application. For example, Retasol lotion, with retinoic acid in the composition. Retinoid treatment is not quick, it may take several months.

I've never had skin problems. However, I know a family who suffered for years, including from the side effects of mononucleosis, until they had tests done. All problems with acne, spots are better to start with a test for the EB virus. If it's not the cause, then other treatments should be considered.

If you've got severe acne - retinoid (vit. A), all the spots will dry up, just like that! But discuss the regimen and all that with a dermatologist. P.S. Some use creams with benzoyl peroxide, they're carcinogenic, there was a warning article!

In reality, only retinoids are effective. They are prescribed by a doctor and should only be taken under a doctor's supervision. This is due to very serious side effects! And the doctor calculates the dosage based on weight and duration of intake. It's taken for a long period. For home care, I use La Roche Effaclar Duo+ face wash and light cream (just not SPF 30!, as it's heavier). But it's only for maintenance. It won't help with serious acne, I reckon. Consult a dermatologist. And in my opinion, it's not worth taking contraceptives, as they only provide temporary relief while you're taking them and the side effects are serious. Perhaps, initially, you'll be prescribed topical retinoids. It helps many.

It's hard to offer any advice, one needs to seek the cause, get examined, consult with specialists. I cured my acne with Zineryt, applied it every day for a month and a half to two months, morning and evening, all my spots cleared up, although I also thought that I would never get rid of them.

I completed a course of Roaccutane and it helped me immensely. I'm NOT encouraging you to rush to the pharmacy for it, I'm urging you to definitely see a doctor, as they are the ones who prescribe such medications. If in your case it's necessary and there are no contraindications, the doctor will prescribe the correct dosage and duration of intake. It's important to note that, like any strong medication, there are side effects, such as dry skin, and you'll have to temporarily give up alcohol and sports, but it can solve your problem. After stopping the course, all side effects will pass, but the effect of the treatment will remain.

I'm not an expert, just sharing personal experience, but one must understand that there's no universal panacea. I treated spots for about 2 months with Retin-A cream, applying it daily to my face, and after the course, there were definitely fewer spots.
