First-Time Experience and Impressions of Eyelid Surgery

Hello, dear forum members! I often read this forum, but decided to write for the first time. On Tuesday, 31st January, I had my first ever plastic surgery - blepharoplasty of the upper and lower eyelids (conjunctival). I had been contemplating doing THIS since November 2011, and finally - it happened. During the stage of studying this issue, while exploring various forums, I often came across reviews of a clearly promotional nature. Then I vowed: if I dare and do it, I will write everything honestly and without embellishment. So, I am 36 years old. For a long time, my lower eyelids, or rather the bags under my eyes, frankly annoyed me. Initially, I thought to do only conjunctival plastic surgery of the lower eyelids, but as I "matured" and tuned in, I finally decided to do everything at once: both upper and lower under general anaesthesia. Today, Saturday 4th February. I was operated on Tuesday 31st January. Today I went to the clinic and they removed the stitches from my upper eyelid. My impressions of the past: 1. There are no painful sensations after the operation, which I was so afraid of. The painkillers prepared just in case were not needed overnight. There was a slight tingling of the upper eyelid for a few hours. That's ALL! 2. The main difficulty is the appearance during the first two days. But, what I understood, dear forum members. The main thing is not to lose heart on the first day after the operation and on the morning of the second day. The appearance is really shocking - the eye is practically not visible. I literally "hid" from my loved ones and did not allow anyone to look at me. Thoughts in my head are like "why did I even start this". BUT! by the end of the second day, the eyes stopped tearing, the swelling from the upper eyelids went away. On the third day, the swelling from the lower eyelids went away. 3. The results PERSONALLY for me - appeared practically on the 2nd day - there are really NO bags under the eyes, and the upper eyelid really "opened up"! So, I can say: I am really happy that I overcame myself and decided on the operation.

Author, did they only do your eyelids for you? Didn't you opt for a full facelift straight away? Because I'm 28 and I've got these constant bags under my eyes (you know, the kind that make me look like I drink) and they seem to merge with my nasolabial folds... Basically, my face is sagging downwards and from my eyelids to my smile lines there's this puffy roll of swelling... And I'm considering correction too, but I keep thinking that I need a lift... Did you have the same issue or did you just have a bit of puffiness under your eyes?

Generally, I'd advise starting with hyaluronic injections into the cheeks, just below the eyes. The bags will disappear automatically. I do it myself, as advised by the doctor. I was considering surgery 5 years ago. Turns out, my facial skin had just sagged.

There's anaesthesia like a sleeping pill, then you don't feel bad afterwards. They did it for me for an hour when I had my nose operated on. Then I even took a taxi home alone. That's not the point. And perhaps everything went well for the OP. I'm not arguing with that. My body also heals cuts quickly after surgery, I'm in less pain than many others. A week after my haemorrhoid surgery, I drove to another city, was behind the wheel for 2 hours. But each body reacts in its own way. For someone else, it might be much more complicated, harder, more painful. Therefore, I wouldn't advise the OP to drag everyone into surgery in such vivid colours.

Could you please tell me, those who have had lower eyelid blepharoplasty, do you have what seems like a roll (thickening) under your eyes? It's been 7 days since my lower eyelid blepharoplasty, there are no bruises left, no swelling either, but there seems to be protruding skin thickening under the scars, is this normal? I'm just worried...

Speak to your patient coordinator or surgeon and discuss your concerns and worries with them.

It's important to make an informed decision.

Hiya, girls! It's already been two months since my lower bleph, and there's a lump under my left eye that just won't dissolve! Even though the doctor said my body would take care of it and everything would dissolve 😟 Well, my body didn't! 😆 Do I need to wait longer??/ How about you? Has it gone?

Swelling is one thing, but I believe my surgery is incomplete. People don't go to a plastic surgeon to cure wrinkles, humped noses, unattractive face shapes and so on. This poses no threat to either health or life. They come for the aesthetic effect. At the moment, I personally don't have it and it's getting worse every day. My skin is sagging onto my lashes as if I never had any blepharoplasty. With such a result, why did I bother to remove the fat deposits? What's the difference what's lying on the lashes: fat hernias or excess skin? It looks absolutely the same. And to really notice the difference, you have to look VERY closely. Even then, not everything is so obvious.

Ladies, I've had an endoscopic facelift (circular), circular blepharoplasty, buccal fat removal. And here I am, 5 weeks in, unable to recover from the most severe swelling, my cheeks are like apples, my entire face is numb. The doctor said that I could be seen in public after 2 weeks, but that's a joke... I only go outside when it's dark, I scare myself when I look in the mirror, I don't recognise myself. Can anyone advise on how to deal with the swelling?

But I have different feelings. I had upper eyelid blepharoplasty 6 years ago and I still regret it. Somehow, everyone keeps quiet about the fact that the eye cut will change, including the surgeon performing the operation. Although I started to look a bit younger at 53, my large almond-shaped eyes have shrunk and become semi-circular, I still avoid looking at myself in the mirror without eye makeup. After the operation, bags appeared under my eyes for the first year, which I never had before. My advice, girls, if you don't have serious reasons, don't be swayed by advertising, the result is often not what you expect!

And all of this is not so! The pain is significant, tablets are needed. Swelling and bruises. Eyes are tearing up. Eyelids are numb. Vision is narrowed, looking down is obstructed by plasters. Physical condition is weakened. Even the appetite is gone. Today is the fourth day after the surgery, itching is starting. There's not even a whiff of instant recovery. Anyone deciding on blepharoplasty, stock up on courage and patience. Right now, I want to go back and stay the same, just to avoid these unpleasant sensations. Still, I hope that I'm not enduring this torment in vain.
