'Botox' is the abbreviated term for the Botulinum toxin - a chemical used for preventative anti-ageing. When injected into certain muscles - i.e. of the face or neck - Botox will stop repeated muscle contractions which are leading to unsightly lines and wrinkles. By dosing the muscle responsible for the skin gathering; concertina-like foreheads, smoker's lines and crepey crow's feet can be eradicated in a matter of minutes.
Botox's paralysing properties can also be an incredible remedy to complaints happening a little further beneath the surface. Long-standing migraine sufferer or overactive sweat glands? Botox can help you here, too.
The remarkable difference a Harley Street Skin Clinic treatment can provide
You can trust Harley Street Skin with Botox results that you'll love, as each and every HSSC patient is welcome to a completely free of charge top up after 3-4 weeks of coming to see us. That way, we can make sure that not only do you have the most beautifully natural results going, but that you're just as delighted as you should be.
Botox is also used to treat 'Hyperhidrosis': a condition characterised by excessive sweating whereby Botox is employed as a means of debilitating the sweat glands - whether that be of the underarms, forehead, neck, back, hands, or feet.
Many people find that receiving botox injections in the soles of the feet ensure that they never struggle with footwear again. No more uncomfortable rubbing, swelling or blisters feet from hot, excessively sweaty feet - hello gorgeous summer sandals.
Studies have shown that Botox can even alleviate the pain caused by chronic migraines. That's right, Botox has been shown to reduce migraine frequency, severity, medication usage and pain-associated nausea and vomiting by up to 65%.

The answer to some of the most common questions you may have
It's only natural to have questions if you are considering pursuing a treatment for the first time, and at Harley Street Skin, it's important to us that you feel confident and comfortable at every stage of your journey. To help you find the answers you need, here are a few of the more common quibbles that we find our clients frequently ask...
You can think of Botox as something of a relaxant. Where administered, Botox causes the muscle to go into a temporary state of paralysis. This prevents certain repeated movements of the face, neck and body which may be forcing the skin to ruche and wrinkle.
Botox is what we refer to as a neuromodulator, which means it intercepts the signals from the brain. It does this by blocking the channel of communication between the nerve endings and the corresponding muscles. That is what makes Botox such a comprehensive treatment, as it can - in effect - be administered almost anywhere.
When injected into the underarms, the glands responsible for releasing sweat cease to receive the chemical signals which enable them to do so. The result? A significant reduction in active sweat glands. Similarly, migraine sufferers can see a drastic reduction in tension and subsequent pain when treated with Botox.
Botox is a fantastic option for all sorts of complaints, both medical and cosmetic. It can: prevent muscle spasms, alleviate migraines, put a stop to excessive sweating, relieve pressure from the feet, and greatly improve the appearance of lines on the face and body.
Areas of the face that are typically treated with Botox include:
In addition to this, Harley Street Skin offer Botox-assisted Neck lifts known as 'Nefertiti Lifts'. This involves using using Botox to improve the appearance of an ageing neck or décolletage.
The effects of Botox can last anywhere between three to four months, before requiring repeat injections to maintain the effects. The great thing about Botox, however, is that after several treatments, the effects will begin to last longer and repeat treatments may only be required every six months.
Botox appointments often take no longer than 20-30 minutes. You will, however, first require a consultation where a practitioner can advise you on the best way to treat your problem areas. On occasion, if both doctor and patient are happy to proceed, then patients may be treated on the same day.
In the interest of the most natural result possible, Harley Street Skin administer Botox in micro doses with a very fine needle. To make sure that patients are as delighted with their results as we hope they are, all Harley Street Skin patients are also welcome to a Botox top up at no extra cost, 3-4 weeks after their initial treatment.
The most obvious side effect of Botox is of course, restricted movement. Aside from that you can expect a certain amount of minor swelling, bruising and numbness around the injection sites. These will all settle down with a few days of seeing us, however, so are no cause for concern.
Some patients do also find that if Botox is administered around the lips or mouth, the resulting numbness can also affect their articulation somewhat. This is very slight, though, and will also subside very quickly.
Botox does not require any recovery time. To speed up the healing process, however, we would recommend that during the first 24 hours you treat the area(s) with some caution. Try to refrain from strenuous exercise; touching or placing pressure on/around the injection sites, engaging in facial massage and exposing the skin to excessive heat such as hot showers or baths.
Botox will not harm your ability to work, and you shouldn't need to take any time away from your job whatsoever. There can be some residual bruising, but patients can keep this to a minimum by heeding all recovery advice as specified above.
