What is Hoodectomy?

Confident Intimate Renewal

How does Hoodectomy work?

Hoodectomy also called clitoral hood reduction is a sensitive elective surgery which decreases the prominence of folds of skin surrounding the external female genital organ. This could be for cleanliness, comfort during sex or just for balance.

The operation, generally carried out under local anaesthetic, is a delicate re-shaping of the clitoral hood, to reveal partially or fully the clitoris, and still retain sensitivity. It is far less invasive than full labiaplasty, and there’s normally a simple recovery period.

The Benefits of Hoodectomy

  • Minimizes irritation or painful chafing due to skin on skin contact.
  • Promotes sanitation by eliminating hidden surfaces for moisture.
  • Increases sensitivity for some patients.
  • Provides a more even, symmetrical appearance.
  • Usual minimal scar visibility.
  • Rapid healing, and most people resume normal activity within a week.

Best for

Clitoral Hood Reduction
Excessive folds are retraced softly to partially expose the clitoral glans.

This is the most common type of hoodectomy and is for women who have excess skin obscuring the clitoral glans. They may be interfering with, and compromising, personal hygiene because the extra layer of skin traps moisture; causing, in some cases, pain and/or irritation from rubbing during physical activity or sexual intercourse.

Classification: Invasive.

Downtime: 5 – 7 days.

Best for: Patients with friction (discomfort) to oversize labial skin, issues with hygiene that have large labia but are looking for a more symmetrical appearance.

Revision Hoodectomy
Adjusts or improves results from a prior procedure or addresses asymmetry.

This is a great choice for anyone that has previously had genital surgery—like a hoodectomy, labiaplasty or other vulval procedures— and is unhappy with the outcome. Some of the reasons include asymmetry, heightened scars, or that the result achieved was not what was expected.

Classification: Invasive.

Downtime: 7 – 14 days.

Best for: Patients who have undergone previous surgery and desire increased symmetry, comfort or a more natural appearance.

The procedure
Precise Sensation Preservation
How does hoodectomy work?

Loose skin is trimmed and meticulously reshaped to not impair sensation over the clitoris.

Comfortably Managed Recovery
Will it hurt?

You will experience pressure not pain while the procedure is being performed. Post-op pain is manageable and minimal with OTC meds.

Quick Same-Day
How long does it take?

Most procedures are typically 45–60 minutes. You are released the same day.

Any Healthy Adult
What age is ideal?

It may be a good option for anyone over 18 whose abdomen is fully developed. There is no maximum age, as long as one is healthy enough.

Customizable Treatment Options
Can I combine it with other treatments?

Yes. Many patients merge hoodectomy with labiaplasty or vaginal rejuvenation — just spread them out as recommended.

Choose Comfort First
Can I wear tight clothing after?

Do not wear tight underwear or jeans for approximately a week. Go with loose, breathable materials.

Thoughtful Timed Revisions
When can I have another treatment?

Revisions are considered if necessary after 6–12 months.

Gentle Healing Guidance
How to maintain results?

Do not cause trauma to the treated area, while it is healing. Maintain follow-up visits and follow post operative care.

Balanced Body Contouring
Can I do other treatments at the same time?

Yes — some patients elect to do so in addition to liposuction or stretch mark treatments for complete contouring. Just space them out so you don’t get too much at once,

The essentials

  • Know Your Reasons and Expectations: Whether it’s a preference for comfort, hygiene or pure looks, articulate what’s bothering you. Your surgeon can help you figure out what’s realistic and what’s safe — it is a highly individualized procedure.
  • Avoid Blood Thinners and Smoking: Avoid the use of aspirin, ibuprofen, or other blood-thinning drugs unless your doctor advises otherwise. If you smoke, reducing or quitting can help your body heal faster and reduce the chances of being infected.
  • Keep the Area Clean and Dry Pre-Op: Do not shave, wax or use strong soapy preparations in the days prior to your procedure. cleaning the area with mild, and fragrance-free products and wearing loose cotton underwear, may help reduce irritation.
  • Plan for Downtime and Intimacy Break: It’s a small surgical procedure, sure, but your body still has to heal. Avoid sexual intercourse and vigorous activity for 7–10 days. Most patients resume their normal routines quickly, but take it easy.
  • Consult Your Surgeon Thoroughly: Talk to your surgeon about your medical history and your surgical plan, including what you hope to achieve with surgery. If necessary, bring in pictures of what you want, but be open to your surgeon’s advice on what will work the best for your body.

  • Post-Treatment Swelling and Redness: Feeling a little tender or slightly swollen for a couple of days after surgery is normal. Some patients additionally experience minor stinging or sensitivity, which tends to occur particularly during wiping or walking.
  • Avoid Touching the Treated Area: Put on baggy, breathable underwear. Avoid anything that will rub up against the area — such as tight pants, thong underwear, or intense physical activity.
  • Skip Intimate Products: Avoid getting perfumed soaps, vaginal washes or cream on any wounds on your vulva. Rinse with warm water and pat dry — nothing else.
  • No Sexual Activity Until Cleared: Even if you feel fine, wait at least 7–10 days or until your surgeon says it’s safe. Friction or pressure too soon can interfere with healing.
  • Attend Your Follow-Up: Your doctor will want to follow up on the healing and make sure everything’s doing well.

  • Let Healing Happen Gradually: You can expect to see changes early on, but it takes time to fully heal. Swelling and soreness will generally diminish after the first week, but internal tissue will settle in over the next few weeks. Take your time; good things come to those who have patience.
  • Avoid Friction and Pressure: Even after the area looks better, you should not wear tight clothing, perform intense exercises or engage in anything that creates unnecessary stress on the healing tissue. Cycling, strenuous leg workouts or aggressive wiping can prolong healing.
  • Hold Off on Intimacy: Allow at least 7–10 days before resuming sex—or longer if your surgeon recommends. The surface might feel good, but microscopic healing is still occurring beneath the skin.
  • Avoid Using Products Unless Recommended: There are no creams or special washes required. In general, skip all vaginal washes, oils and scented anything unless your surgeon tells you he needs you to do otherwise.
  • Stick to Your Check-Ups: Keep all follow-up appointments, even if you feel well. Your surgeon monitors your healing and may even stabilize or remove the dressings on your surgical site at your follow-up appointment. Make sure you are fully informed regarding your hoodectomy procedure.

Why Choose Hoodectomy?
Empowered Body Confidence
Restore comfort and confidence

For some women, the clitoral hood can present chronic problems be it irritation from tight clothing, problems during sexual activity or even hygiene issues. Hoodectomy is a simple surgical procedure where you remove the extra tissue around the clitoris, and this can help to address the sensitivity problem that some women have and allow them to get through life. It may also offer peace of mind that things don’t have to be as uncomfortable and a sense of a newfound ease in your body.

Target Issues
Comfort, Confidence, Ease
  • Persistent pain or irritation

Extra tissue around the clitoris may also rub, chafe, or be uncomfortable during particular activities or even with clothing.

  • Hygiene and personal care challenges

With an icky routine, you can get frustrated, self-consciousness and struggle to clean properly. Hoodectomy can also simplify daily hygiene.

  • Desire for a more balanced appearance

For others, the choice is partly how they feel about their own body. A hoodectomy can restore balance and even give one the confidence in their private area.

Confident Body Tweaks
Refined, Balanced Intimate Area

You don’t have to go under the knife to feel better in your own skin. Other times, a small tweak, such as reducing the folds around the clitoris, can give you a renewed sense of confidence, comfort and control over your body.

Recovery timeline
1 - 2 Days

You may have minor pain, tenderness or burning near the surgical site. Mild swelling or tenderness when walking, sitting, or wiping is normal.

  • Eliminate any snug panties, no sex, and no immediate pressure on the site.
  • Rest, keep the affected area dry and clean and do not move unnecessarily.
6 – 7 Days

Swelling generally will start to recede, and any light bruising will begin to fade.

  • So you can go back in for a post-op check and they’ll be examining your progress and that there’s no infection, no irritation.
  • By this time the pain should also decrease.
1 – 2 Weeks

The pain and swelling are largely gone. Tissue begins to set in its new, perfected form.

  • You will be allowed to gradually reintroduce light, non-strenuous activity if your surgeon allows it.
  • Refrain from any kind of friction – including sex or vigorous exercise.
1 Month

The area looks smoother and more even, yet deeper tissue is healing.

  • Continue to wear soft, non-toxic underwear that can breathe. Patients are mostly back to their regular activities, but I’d still recommend staying away from anything that causes pulling or irritation.
3 – 6 Months

Final results are visible. The tissue is completely matured and developed in its normal shape.

  • Your surgeon will talk to you about minor asymmetry or scar revision, should it be required.
  • The majority of patients do not require additional treatment.
The benefits

  • Refined Clitoral Appearance: If hoodectomy is performed gently to remove just extra folds skin over the clitoris, a more balanced shape can still look natural and unused.
  • Enhanced comfort whilst moving and getting intimate: If the symmetry is very deficient, then during exercise or sexual relation, it can be very uncomfortable and skin redundancy at the clitoral hood can result in discomfort, friction or intercourse problem. After hoodectomy, lots of patients actually feel better about themselves in general, and also feel more confident in their sexual stimulation during intimate times.
  • Better Sanitation and Clean-up: The less excess tissue, the easier it is to keep the area clean and dry. This will help to eliminate trapped moisture and prevent irritation, particularly during your period or workouts.
  • IncreasedSensitivity for Some Patients: With the clitoris fully saved, taking down all the surrounding skin can help remove the barrier to sensation — which means more sensation for at least some patients.
  • Fast and Low-Recovery Time: Recovery Usually Short This is an external, small area procedure, so recovery is usually brief. Patients typically return to their non-strenuous activities in a matter of days without any significant impact on their usual routine.

  • Natural-Looking Outcome: The aim isn’t to change dramatically — but to enhance subtly. The majority of patients say that the area appears more harmonious, without looking as if anything was done.
  • Relief from Previous Irritation: If you have experienced pain from tight clothes, particular movements or intimacy, those previous issues are significantly decreased or gone once the mesh has been removed.
  • Confidence: This is not someone else’s awareness, it is about being more comfortable in your body and in control of your sexual health.
  • Long-Lasting Improvement: Responses are irreversible. After healing, most people experience a long-term improvement in comfort, appearance, and hygiene without further treatment.

  • Small Procedure, Big Impact: Hoodectomy is a brief outpatient surgery that can improve your quality of life in a big way quietly, no overnight stays or extensive recovery needed.
  • Comfort Where It Matters Most: Many patients say that they feel less self-conscious and more comfortable in their bodies — particularly in situations that had previously been uncomfortable or worrisome.
  • Tailored to Your Needs: This is not cosmetic trend-chasing. It’s a practical, subjective procedure that you have done for you — with results influenced by both your body and your goals.

Am I suitable?
Is Hoodectomy good for me?
  • You may be a suitable candidate for hoodectomy if you have an overabundance of skin over the clitoral area that causes you physical discomfort, mechanical irritation, hygiene problems, and/or you are distressed with the aesthetic appearance.
  • Candidates are in generally good health with no active infections in the area. Detailed examination by your surgeon is necessary to evaluate the anatomy and determine whether the surgery is safe and can accomplish your goals.
The Risk
What are the usual and adverse side effects?

Just like any cosmetic surgery, there are a few risks hoodectomy. These may include:

Usual Side Effects

  • Bruising: A small amount of bruising at the operative site is normal and should resolve within a week.
  • Swelling: The region where you had your surgery will feel swollen and puffy a few days in post-op, and that’s just part of the healing process.
  • Sensitivity: Discomfort or pressure, particularly when walking or wiping, is common.

Adverse Effects

Although rare, the following complications may occur:

  • Infection: There is a possibility of getting an infection if the aftercare procedure is not followed correctly.
  • Scars: Even though the incisions are tiny and situated in unremarkable areas, slight scarring can develop in some patients.
  • Asymmetry or Overcorrection: Sometimes, lopsided healing or too much skin excision can leave you wanting things fixed.

These risks are significantly minimised when selecting a qualified, experienced surgeon who is an expert in the intimate procedure and offers personal aftercare.
