Keloid Reduction
Why is it essential?
Keloid scar removal is a type of treatment to reduce or remove a thick, raised scar known as a keloid. Keloid scar excision is pertinent for aesthetic and comfort enhancement. These scars can be deep and have an impact on someone’s view of their skin. Treatment can even out the skin and ease pain or itching. It also restores mobility especially when the keloid is near a joint and may also prevent the scar from getting larger over time, giving better reassurance and relief.
Several benefits include:
- Better appearance
- Less discomfort
- Stop growth
- Increased confidence
All about keloid scars
Keloid scars are raised scars that typically develop on a healing wound. They can form after surgery, following major trauma to the skin, around a new body piercing or even after minor skin damage like an acne breakout. They are firm, shiny, rubbery-feeling scars and tend to show up on the shoulders, upper chest and earlobes.
This type of scarring is also more common with individuals with darker skin tones and is known as keloid scarring. That is because our genes can contribute to the way our wounds heal and thus affect our odds of developing a keloid.
