The notion that summer is around the corner is usually great news ....but not for those dreading the summer wardrobes due to unsightly veins in their legs. Well, no need to bury those floaty skirts and midi-dresses deep in the recesses of the wardrobe - Harley Street Skin want you to wear them with pride.
Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical method of removing the appearance of veins in the legs with injections of a chemical solution known as a 'sclerosing agent'. A quick, virtually painless solution if you will.
The remarkable difference a Harley Street Skin Clinic treatment can provide
Surgical removal of said offending veins may be effective, but it's not always practical: life still goes on. Sclerotherapy will drastically reduce the appearance of veins various, over the course of just a few sessions at the clinic. Just look at some of these results...
Thread veins (or 'Spider veins') arise when small clusters of veins form just beneath the surface of the skin. Similarly, Varicose veins can crop up due to hormone changes, exposure to the sun, and/or injury. You may be eating all the right things, exercising frequently, and getting plenty of rest but unsightly veins can still rear their head.
Thread veins in the legs are a common problem that, although harmless, can often cause distress, making sufferers feel self-conscious and wanting to cover up. Warm summer days and swimsuit season can instead quickly become a source of anxiety - particularly when the veins appear on an exposed area of the leg.
Sclerotherapy is a safe, effective and painless procedure which treats the problem in a way which doesn't require any recovery or bed-rest - just a few trips to see us at the Clinic. Best of all, though, a course of Sclerotherapy ensures that when summer rolls around, you'll be just itching to show off your new, beautiful, vein-free legs.

The answer to some of the most common questions you may have
It's only natural to have questions if you are considering pursuing a treatment for the first time, and at Harley Street Skin, it's important to us that you feel confident and comfortable at every stage of your journey. To help you find the answers you need, here are a few of the more common quibbles that we find our clients frequently ask...
Sclerotherapy involves a number of small injections, directly into the affected part of the leg(s). Needle-cautious patients needn't panic, as only extremely fine needles are used for this procedure and you will feel virtually nothing.
The solution injected during Sclerotherapy is known as 'Sodium Tetradecyl Sulphate'; it is used because it has the ability to irritate to the lining of the veins in the leg. The body responds to this irritant by clotting the blood within the vein which - when combined with pressure from compression bandages - will collapse the vein walls. This obliterates them for good, meaning you're free to dig out all that old summer wear and flaunt your lovely legs confidently again.
Patients often find that once they have completed a course of Sclerotherapy, their legs look far more youthful and healthy overall. Over time, the body will reabsorb the affected veins, leaving legs far smoother and free from any visible discolouration or bumps.
Some veins can also become a source of pain, feeling sore or heavy and sometimes even leading to rashes. Since the solution injected works to obliterate the vein entirely, treating prominent veins with Sclerotherapy will allow patients to feel much more comfortable: both physically and psychologically.
Sclerotherapy is often described as a 'permanent solution on a temporary basis'. While it can make sure that the veins that have been treated are permanently dissolved, it unfortunately doesn't prevent future ones from surfacing in a similar way.
Still, remarkable results are achieved after a course of treatments spaced approximately four to six weeks apart, and patients can even undergo preventative top-ups every 18 months.
Sclerotherapy is an outpatient procedure - that means you're free to go home the moment the treatment is complete. Certain more stubborn or prominent veins may require a little more attention although generally, a course of between 2-4 sessions of Sclerotherapy is recommended for best results. Each session should last around 20-30 minutes.
Directly after treatment, the vein will appear bruised and many patients experience a sensation of itchiness as well as some slight discolouration of the treated skin. It is also not uncommon for treatment areas to also feel a little achy or sore after a session. Less common side effects may include cramping and minor swelling, although all are perfectly normal.
Initially the vein will look fairly bruised, although, you will be perfectly capable of resuming normal daily activities after each session.
After treatment, you will be required to wear a compression bandage for up to 3 weeks to help apply pressure to the treated area as it heals. This is sometimes accompanied by some slight itchiness but this should subside over the first 2-5 days.
Provided you keep on all compression bandages, you are free to return to work immediately if you so desire.
