Introduction
When you undergo any facial rejuvenation procedure, it is usually the most exciting step in achieving a more defined jawline and a tighter neck profile. That is why FaceTite has become globally popular since it gives you an impressive and structural contraction without undergoing extensive scars or going through a longer downtime which usually comes after the traditional surgery or lift.
However, since it is marketed as a minimally invasive procedure, the majority of patients are usually caught off guard by its physical recovery phase. If you are interested or planning to have this treatment, the most essential thing that you need to know is that the post-procedure swelling is completely normal as well as it is a default biological sign that the procedure is working for you. When you understand the typical swelling trajectory of FaceTite, it will keep you calm and prepared while you are undergoing the post-care of the treatment.
What Can You Expect With Facetite Swelling?
FaceTite typically uses highly controlled thermal energy in remodelling your lower face and jawline from the inside out. Since this process generally causes intentional and microscopic trauma to the fat and dermal layers, your body will immediately trigger a powerful inflammatory healing response as it happens.
One of its common side effects is swelling. It is actually the most prominent feature of this response. When you know and understand what to expect for each day will generally help you in preventing any unnecessary panic especially when you look in the mirror. It will help you differentiate what normal healing looks like from rare complications. It will also help you to ensure that you allow your tissues the appropriate timeline in revealing their defined new contours.
Everything About FaceTite Treatment
It is a minimally invasive body and facial contouring technology which is generally powered by RFAL energy. It was developed by InMode, and this globally popular procedure helps in targeting localised fat deposits and skin laxity in the areas such as the submental zone, jawline, and lower cheeks.
You will notice during the treatment that there will be a specialised double-pronged handpiece to be used. It is a very thin internal probe which will gently pass under your skin through a tiny, 1.5mm entry point. At the same time, the external electrode is gliding smoothly along the surface. You should also know that bipolar radiofrequency energy will flow vertically between the two prongs which will safely heat the deep collagen fibers, connective septae, and fat cells. This heat will significantly liquify any stubborn fat pockets for easier suction while causing your loose skin matrix in instantly contracting and tightening.
The Different Typical Causes of Swelling After FaceTite
Inflammation and Healing
This is the primary factor of swelling since it is your body’s natural response to tissue heat and trauma. In order to significantly induce skin contraction and new collagen production, FaceTite will intentionally heat the deep subcutaneous layers for about 65°C, and the surface skin to 38–40°C.
This thermal energy will cause an immediate contraction, but it will also create a controlled sterile injury. In response to this, your immune system will rush a significant amount of white blood cells, healing proteins, and fluid into your lower face in repairing the tissues. This intense inflammatory response is usually at its peak during the early days of recovery. This will cause your lower face to look notably rounded or puffy.
The Role & Importance of Local Anaesthesia and Fluid Response
Before delivering the radiofrequency energy, your surgeon will thoroughly saturate the treatment zone with tumescent local anaesthesia. It is a specialised mixture of saline, lidocaine, and epinephrine. This will completely numb the area and will significantly minimise any bruising that might appear.
However, when introducing a significant volume of fluid directly into your facial tissues, it also means that you will start your recovery with a built-in fluid volume. It will take your lymphatic system for several days in processing, breaking down, and flushing out this residual fluid. This will cause a temporary look of extra fullness.
What Are The Other Contributing Factors?
Each patient’s healing baseline is unique from one another and there is no default healing process. The gravity of your swelling will be heavily influenced by several personal factors such as:
- The Treated Area: When addressing both the full jawline and the entire neck profile at the same time, it will generate more swelling instead of just treating a small and isolated submental pocket.
- Patient’s Unique Anatomy and Age: Generally, younger skin with an active lymphatic system would often clear out fluid faster. On the other hand, mature skin or patients who are generally prone into systemic fluid retention might experience some prolonged puffiness.
- Overall lifestyle: Factors like stress levels, dietary salt intake, and any pre-existing circulation efficiency will directly dictate how your body will rapidly resolve any localised inflammation.

How Long Does Swelling Last?
Days 1–3: This is usually the peak phase. This is the time when swelling and soft bruising are typically at their absolute most noticeable. You will notice that your jawline will look obscured, and the treated area might feel heavy, numb, and tight. You should understand as well that this is the fluid-heavy peak phase where strict complete rest should be followed.
Days 4–7: You will start to notice a visible and steady decrease in acute swelling. The fluid will now begin shifting downward because of gravity, and any sharp, tight discomfort will now transition into a dull and manageable soreness.
Weeks 2–3: At this stage, the majority of dramatic swelling is now finally cleared out. This will allow you to return to work and social activities without drawing attention. However, there might still be a subtle internal puffiness, minor hardness, or sometimes uneven “woody” areas which might persist under your skin.
Weeks 4–6 Onwards: During this time, as the lingering micro-swelling is now completely resolved and the long-term collagen matrix is beginning to mature, your sharp and newly contoured jawline will steadily lock into place. You will be able to see your final skin tightening to improve for about 3 to 6 months.
When Should You Seek Medical Advice?
While swelling is generally normal and a necessary part of tissue repair, you must also monitor your healing closely. Because knowing when to escalate your symptoms will ensure that any rare complications will be addressed promptly and at an earlier stage.
Severe Swelling After 7–10 Days: While it is the primary side effect after the treatment, your swelling should only follow a downward trend after the first week. If you notice that your lower face or neck suddenly balloons in size, you feel that is increasingly tight, or sometimes it becomes harder after day 7, it could possibly indicate an internal pocket of clear fluid or blood which needs to be professionally drained by your clinic. You should communicate this to your clinic immediately.
Any signs of Infection: You should monitor your tiny insertion points everyday. Some possible signs of infections are: if you experience having a fever, if your skin becomes intensely hot to the touch, if there is a bright red redness that spreads across your jawline, or if you notice any thick and foul-smelling yellow discharge. You should let your surgical team know about it and immediately call for antibiotic therapy.
What Are The Practical Tips to Manage Swelling?
- You should wear compression garments accurately as directed. Your chin strap will also function as a medical brace. When you apply this constantly, there will be a uniform pressure across your jawline and neck. It will physically prevent any empty space from filling with fluid which can drastically lower your swelling baseline. You should wear it 24/7 during the first week.
- During the first 3 to 5 days, you should sleep with your head elevated for about a 30-to-45-degree angle. This will cause the gravity to draw fluid down away from your delicate facial tissues which will significantly prevent any severe morning puffiness.
- You should avoid any high-intensity workouts and heavy lifting for at least 2 weeks. As this could possibly cause a spike in your blood pressure which will aggressively drive fluid back into your healing zones. Additionally, you should also avoid any alcohol intake for the first week. Because alcohol is a natural vasodilator which opens blood vessels and could directly cause the worsening swelling and bruising.
