Once your scalp is cleansed, the surgeon applies a small needle to an area of the head with local anaesthesia. There are 2 ways to harvest follicles for hair transplantation:

After the Procedure
A hair transplant surgery can take 4 or more hours to complete and stitches are removed ten days after. You may need between one to four sessions (depending on the hair transplant approach) in order to achieve the head of hair that you desire and to allow time between each session so your scalp can effectively heal.
Since a hair transplant is a surgical procedure, you may feel little discomfort at times. Local anaesthetic is administered at the beginning so that surgery takes place without any pain. The first injection may sting a little, but the surgery itself should be painless.
You are awake during the procedure and experience everything. It is uncomfortable as you will feel some pulling and tugging but the local anaesthetic works well at managing any pain.
The treatment is painless, but your scalp might be a little sore after the anaesthetic has worn off. The scalp is traumatised somewhat during surgery, and this causes redness and swelling of the skin for a few days. This will be especially true if you had a large number of grafts placed, though they tend to heal within 1 – 2 weeks.
If you experience some pain and discomfort after surgery, prescription medicines may be given to relieve the pain, reduce swelling, and to prevent infection. Often this minimal discomfort subsides after a few days. After that your new hair will begin to grow in a few months.
The majority of the hairs transplanted will have fallen out at one month following hair transplant. After which, about three months later, new hair will begin to grow. By six months, the transplanted hair takes on its natural appearance and new hairs will continue to grow for a lifetime. The back where the hair was harvested shrinks to an almost invisible stitch line.
Hair transplants paired with other hair loss treatments (such as PRP hair) will increase the hair density. Hair loss medication like Minoxidil or finasteride can also stop further hair loss as well as strengthen your existing hairs. However, a hair transplant surgeon should be consulted to determine if any combination is appropriate.
