It captures clear digital images of your moles with a specialized high resolution camera. These are kept in a computer system. The system tries to find any changes within your moles over time, comparing recent pictures with older ones. This makes it easy for doctors to identify early signs of problems — including skin cancer. It’s a straightforward and effective way to monitor your existing moles and your skin health.
Skin cancer can appear at any age, especially if you’re at higher risk. Your risk of skin cancer grows as you age. That is why it can be a good idea to start checking your moles and skin regularly, particularly if you are in your 50s or older. And getting checked early helps catch any changes and keep your skin healthy.
A particular mole mapping session typically lasts between 30 and 60 minutes, again depending on how many moles there are to check. It takes only a few minutes, requires no needles and is an important tool in monitoring changes in your skin.
If you have many moles, or higher chance of skin cancer, it’s good idea that every 6 months you have a mole map. Regular checkups detect changes early, keeping your skin healthy.
Mole mapping is painless and totally non invasive. It’s a fast procedure where your moles are photographed. You may feel some pressure, but it’s not painful.
